Rowen White is an Indigenous Seed Keeper from the Mohawk community of Akwesasne and a passionate activist for Indigenous seed and food sovereignty. She is the director and founder of Sierra Seeds, an innovative organic seed cooperative based in Nevada City, CA, focusing on local seed production and education. Rowen founded the Indigenous Seedkeepers Network, which is committed to restoring the Indigenous Seed Commons across North America. She teaches creative seed training immersions around the country within tribal and small farming communities. She received the American Horticulture Society’s Teaching Award and the James Beard Foundation’s Leadership Award. She weaves stories of seeds, food, culture, biocultural restoration, and Indigenous land stewardship in her publication Re-Seeding Imaginations. Follow her seed journeys at sierraseeds.org.
